Gauri (Nutan) lives with her paternal uncle Kashinath (Shivraj) and his wife.She is not treated well by her aunt and goes through a lot of hardships.She does all the work in the house and also works as a servant in another household for a petty sum of money which was also taken by her aunt. The cops,one day call Kashinath to the police station and tell him that Gauri has been convicted of stealing a necklace from the place where she was working. Kashinath takes the responsibility of looking after her. She is able to catch Bankelal (C.S Dubey) who accused her of stealing the necklace. She tries to beat him up and the cops catch her once again. This time she is sent to Shree Satyanand Anarthalaya run by Ashok (Balraj Sahni). She is against the rules and regulations of the institution and in anger,breaks the furniture and windows. She runs away and beats up Bankelal badly and comes back.Ashok and Murlidhar (Sunder) find out that Gauri was framed and tell the cops. Bankelal tells the truth and Gauri is acquitted and is told to leave the orphanage. But she chooses to stay. Ashok gets a heart attack and Gauri wants to stay and look after him. But Ashok wants her to get married to Murlidhar. Find out how Gauri resolves her dilemma. Will she listen to herself and stay or obey Ashok and get married according to his choice?
