Set against the background of the British rule, the film tells the story of Thakur Jaswant Singh (Sanjeev Kumar), a drunken debauch, who spends all his time entertaining his friends with drinks and girls. His wife Deepa (Rati Agnihotri) is tired of his wayward lifestyle and confines herself to the four walls of the house. Life holds no meaning for her till, one day, she sights an old college sweetheart Amal (Arun Govil), who is now employed by Jaswant as a photographer. Soon a new relationship grows between Amal and Deepa till, one day, Deepa finds that she is pregnanat. Who is the real father of the child, Amal or Jaswant? As the time for confrontation arrives, the simple truth of life is revealed to shock everyone.
